Kitchens & Snacks (not together, yet, though)

The cabinets are finally moving in, and hopefully we will be soon too!  Hopefully they are fully installed by now, but when we stopped by earlier in the day, at least some progress had been made (on a Sunday, which we appreciate).  Here is the kitchen in progress - these cabinets will be painted white on-site:

Here is our new nook/cubby in the hallways (right side) - it'll be used for some jackets, dog walking gear, kids backpacks, etc.  It will be painted white also.

Here are the master bath cabinets - we asked them to match the dark stained color of our bedroom furniture and I think they did a great job.  Ignore the dusty finger prints all over them...

I'm going to try to go over again on Tuesday and hopefully snap some pictures of the fully installed kitchen - not sure if it'll be painted by then.

We snagged a better shot of the finished coffered ceiling also:

After a long day of installing cabinets, Lilah took a break to eat a sandwich

New Phase

Apparently we've moved into the Dexter Kill Room phase of our project:

We made soooo much progress today - I'm so proud of us.  Yay us :)  We picked out our granite slabs for the kitchen, and chose 2 nice remnant pieces for the hall bath and laundry room.
We also added a third granite piece because we decided to do a facelift on the den bathroom (previously the master bath) since it will now get more guest traffic.   The builder was nice enough to suggest an acid wash to the existing floor to clean it up as opposed to paying to replace it.  We'll keep the wall tiles as-is (since I put a lot of sweat and elbow grease into dremeling and regrouting that whole darn bath two years back!) and then just throw a nice new granite counter top on the existing vanity.  Wa-la!

AND, we chose a backsplash!  I thought we wouldn't agree on it, since my taste can be a bit more contemporary, but we found some great tiles that we both like.  DONE!

Supposedly cabinets go in tomorrow.  Another yay!  We are 3-4 weeks from the end and it can't get here soon enough!

Two posts in one day?!? It's like Xmas!

Tom took a swing by the house this evening and a few more things are coming together.  Check out the back porch - railings are all painted

We had some issues with the way the back of the house looked where the siding met the porch and Tom had the great idea to put a lattice up.  I think it looks great.  We can hang some plants or our hummingbird feeder on it eventually.

They also got started on our coffered ceilings in the living room!  It was a bit dark in the house to take pictures without the flash, so we'll have to try to get some better ones this weekend

Crisis solved, and other updates

The house is painted!  We chose a new color and the exterior has been painted.  In pictures it really doesn't look all that different, and honestly it's not that different in person either, but it did take the brightness of the last color choice down a tad, which is exactly what we needed.  It looks a lot better - honest :)

Here is a better close-up of the gable, you can see the tan accent color on the grate and the brackets

And here is the side dormer so you can see what's going on over there...

AAAANNND, the inside has updates too!  We have real stairs!

....railings are up on the back porch (which will be screened soon)

And, the master bath is getting tiled!  Here is a shot of the whole room with the floor tiles (a 12x24 light grey porcelain that looks and feels just like a natural stone), and the shower tiles and accent installed so far

Here is a close-up of the shower tile and accent - it has a subtle vertical stripe on all the tiles and the accent is a split-face dark grey stone tile

That's it for now.  Some of the tile for this bathroom is still on order, so it wont be done for a little bit.  The rest of it is the same look and feel as this, just in various sizes and configurations.  Hopefully I can upate soon.  The floors were finished this week, so we haven't been able to get in the house for a few days.  I think today they are starting to work on the coffering in the living room so that should make some good pictures this weekend...and then hopefully the kitchen will get movin!
