A few updates

I've had some requests to update the blog.  But things aren't quite so dramatic around here anymore - after a roof being ripped off, torrential rain poring in, and a second floor being built, pictures of some plumbing just seem kinda boring!  Here are a few details that have been added this past week

The skylight as you walk in the front door (see the door and stairs on the right - the new front door will swing the other way so as not to block the stairs :)  )

A better view of the window in our new master bedroom

And just to prove that plumbing makes for boring pictures, here is one of the new tub in the hall bath

And so as not to end the post with a boring plumbing picture, I'll add this one from my brother- and sister-in-law's visit which completely cracks me up...poor unsuspecting Lilah...

Getting Ideas

Now that the house is starting to look like a real house I'm beginning to collect decorating ideas. One of my absolute favorite home decorating/DIY blogs is Young House Love. http://www.younghouselove.com
Just great DIY ideas and how to decorate well on the cheap. Figured I'd post the links here 1) because maybe you'll find them interesting too and 2) then it's easy for me to find them later.

I have been thinking about paint colors a lot lately and this post was super helpful. Now I just need to figure out what our house color scheme will be.

I also really love this idea and I'm thinking of doing something similar up the new stairs

I'd also like to note that I'm super annoyed I can't figure out how to post links. Argh!! Gotta work on that.

First upstairs walk-through

Went to the house today with Jeff & Diane to walk through the upstairs for the first time since all the framing was done.  Here is the first glimpse into the new upstairs rooms

At the top of the stairs, looking down the hallway.  Far end of the hallway is the guest room, on the left is the laundry room, on the right is our master bedroom, and behind the camera is Lilah's room

Looking from the other direction, you see the top of the stairs and Lilah's room behind it.

A better look at Lilah's room - I LOVE the sloped roof peaks and it's a huge room which is awesome.

Our master bedroom.  It's hard to take a picture of.  It's just a basic rectangle, but it's a really nice size room and is going to have a kick-a$$ window view to the back woods.  The far side of the picture, on the right,  is the master bathroom.  On the left will be one of the closets that is off that bathroom.

The guest room - also a nice size. I was worried about this one being small, but it isn't at all.

That's it for now.  I'm not sure how many more pictures updates I'll have for a bit since most of the upcoming work is plumbing and electrical which doesn't make for spectacular photos.  I promise I'll update as soon as there is something interesting to look at :)

Some additional pics of a TWO story house

Tom got to swing by the house today and here are some additional shots...

From the other side:

I'll take some more interior pics on Friday, but here is one of the neeeeew stairs - which will be much appreciated as Lilah and I did NOT enjoy the ladder climb last time

Speaking of Lilah, she has been sorely missing from this blog!!  Here she is picking flowers with the house build behind her - this is one for the scrapbooks...

That looks like....a house

I didn't go by the house yesterday as I normally do on Tuesdays, so unfortunately I only have one small cell phone picture my neighbor took.  BUT, I wanted to provide my fans with something before the end of the week.  Plus, this post is specifically for Kim'berly Obrien, who is due to have her baby any second now....I know how hard it would be for her to relax during labor w/out a house update from me, so here it is..  Look, it looks like a HOUSE!

Things are heating up!

So after a weekend of monsoons, and a week of predicted rain, we actually got done more than expected.  I say "we" like I'm the one balancing up there on a beam with a hammer in my hand and nail in my teeth.  Anyways, we ended up having several days that didn't rain much and so almost all of the framing of the second floor is done!

Here is what it looked like on Tuesday when the second floors (actual floors) were put on.

From the inside - we got some ceilings...

Compare that to the pictures from today.  Lots of progress!!!

Even more than you can tell from this angle is that you can actually get up onto the second floor and all the rooms are framed.  It was really hard to take pictures of because it just looks like a bunch of boards but...

Our new upstairs hallway (the diagonal beams are just temporary):

The view to the front door from what will be the landing (the stairs will be here):

Lilah's new bedroom - it's going to be super sweet, with cool angles:

And the piece de resistance (spelling??) is our master bedroom:

The reason it's the piece de resistance is that that entire open space will be a wall of windows out to the woods behind our house.
I cannot wait to see this all when the walls get up - it's really coming together!
